Scoop Feedback:

[Page draft submitted by our junior Zorro 'Deadpool'.]

July 21, 1998... Taken From Army Archerd's Variety column, Antonio Banderas had this to say about the possibility of a sequel to The Mask of Zorro: "We have to see if it has legs -- if we can reach 100 (million $). I'm very cautious. But it should have a strong international market." The film debuted in the top spot on its opening weekend and to very favorable reviews, a strong sign Banderas may be tying on the black mask again. The Spanish actor also notes that none of the films he's made have ever given him the opportunity "to build a character that I know," so a sequel would be a pleasant first (or second, or third) for him! Banderas only insists on two things: that Martin Campbell again direct, and, of course, that it be a good script. But Zorro 2 won't be on his plate for a while; he leaves immediately to star in The White River Kid shooting in Arkansas, then returns to the U.S. to edit his first directorial pic, Crazy in Alabama. And if all the red tape can be cleared up he'll also star in the big screen adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Weber's The Phantom of the Opera next year.
