Developments:

June 5, 1996... John Travolta has walked off the set of the film just before filming commences. Travolta left the $17 million dollar role after a disagreement arose on how he was to portray his character of Jake. An annoucement naming a new star to replace Travolta is expected soon.

June 12, 1996... Steve Martin is set to replace John Travolta in the lead role for a salary of $12 million - which is $5 mil less than Travolta's alleged paycheck.

Week of June 28, 1996... Polanski leaves the project in a spinning game of musical chairs.

Week of June 23, 1996... Now rumors are surfacing that Isabelle Adjani and Jean Reno want out of the project.

June 6, 1996... John Travolta checked out of his Paris hotel and flew back to the U.S. a week before filming begins. A film spokesman cited a family medical emergency for the leave but rumor has it that Travolta got into an argument with director Roman Polanski. If Travolta officially leaves the project, Mandalay Entertainment will be very deep in the red. [Scoop submitted by 'Sylvester'.]

July 3, 1996... Polanski's out. Adjani's out. Now Travolta wants back in. You could make a movie about what the hell's going on before this show gets one frame filmed. No word yet if Dostoevsky is spinning in his grave. [Various scoops reported by an anonymous source and Diane.]
