September 14, 1998... An anonymous reviewer who caught a test screening of Ron Howard's latest film, Ed TV, also reports the director's next project: an adaptation of Jack London's Seawolf. The scooper also reports that Howard is looking at Nicolas Cage for the role of the ship's captain, but "role of Van Weyden has not been cast" at the present time. The scooper leaves us with one final piece of news that screenwriters/directors who read CA might find interesting to note. Although London is best known for his world-renouned novel The Call of the Wild, The Sea Wolf (published in 1904) has also been praised for its gripping account of life at sea at the beginnings of the Twentiteh Century. The Merriam-Webster Encyclopedia of Literature describes the book as:

"This highly popular novel combines elements of naturalism and romantic adventure. The story concerns Humphrey Van Weyden, a refined castaway who is put to work on the motley schooner Ghost. The ship is run by brutal Wolf Larsen, who, despite his intelligence and strength, is antisocial and self-destructive. Hardened by his arduous experiences at sea, Humphrey develops strength of both body and will, protecting another castaway, Maud Brewster, and facing down the increasingly deranged Larsen."
