November 11, 1997... The $35 million Fox project is scheduled to begin shooting in March 1998. Jewel's move to the movies follows in the footsteps of other pop divas, such as Madonna or Whitney Houston. [Scoop sent in by 'Deadpool'.]
November 22, 1997... Matt Damon is out, Skeet Ulrich is in. [Fired at us by 'Deadpool' and anonymously]
We're told that when Fox put it in turnaround, Universal picked it up. Universal is splitting the rights of the film, taking only the domestic box office. When Matt Damon passed on the project, the studio got skitterish about spending $35 mil. Now that the budget has been lowered, the film's moving on the fastpath again. [Reported anonymously.]

Woodrell, Woe To Live On and published in 1987. The Production Company is Good
Machine Productions (New York) Budget is $30 million (not $35 mil but it's expected it to go up with Universal depending on
the potential success of Lee's The Ice Storm.) The screenplay is by James Schamus (also of The Ice Storm.)
Central action will be the 1863 burning of Lawrence, Kansas and imposition of Union Order #11, an anti-partisan ordinance.
