Comments: Darren Aronofsky's low-budget and high-concept first film, PI, took the Director's Award at the 1998 Sundance Film Festival and won the 29-year-old critical acclaim. The suits at Miramax's genre arm, Dimention Films, know good talent when they see it and hired Aronofsky to direct their latest SF film, Proteus. Here's hoping that Aronofsky's sophmore film establishes his name within the genre; after all, Entertainment Weekly picked him for their 'It' list for 1998.

Rumors: Unknown.

Scoop Feedback:

July 26, 1998... During an interview with Mania, Aronofsky stated that this film would be the scariest film you've seen in the last ten years. He thinks that horror movies have gone completely into gore and lost their psychological edge. ['Widgett' wants to raise the periscope.]
