September 20, 1998... ZENtertainment reports that shooting is expected to start "soon," thus obviously negating earlier word about July. Fall is what the word on the street says. [Originally appeared in ZENtertainment; Film and Television Projects in Production; Reported by 'Widgett'.]

September 21, 1998... A spy for Ain't It Cool News reports that Linda Fiorentino will be in the project as well. Also, he says that the film is based on the life of an actual Irish gangster, Martin Cahill, whose life has already been the subject of one film, I Once Had a Life, which is due out in December, according to the IMDB. Those in Dublin might want to look for a major scene to be filmed in the Bank of Ireland on College Green in the City Centre there. [Originally appeared in Ain't It Cool News; IMDB; Reported by 'Widgett'.]

September 24, 1998... Miramax has just picked up this film. The latest word on start of filming is the 29th of September. [Originally appeared in Dark Horizons; reported by Widgett.]

November 10, 1998... We've been told that Scottish actor Peter Mullans, who won Best Actor Award at Cannes this year for his lead role in Ken Loach's latest film My Name Is Joe is now a part of the cast. [Scoop sent anonymously, taken from The Independent newspaper.]

January 12, 1999... "Y'all prbably know this already but i just thought i should tell you that this film is partially based on the story of Irish Drug Lord, Martin Cahill, a story which was brought to the screen just recently by John Boorman, with his film The General. Cahill was killed by the IRA, and among his many distinctive character traits was the habit of nailing peoples arms and legs to the ground if they betrayed him. But despite that, apparantly he was a nice affable fellow, who had a baby with his wife's sister, with his wife's approval. Cool, huh! By the way, if you havent seen The General in North America, its very, very good." Actually, some of that information was already avaliable in our September 19/98 scoop from 'Widgett' but it's always good to add some more lines. [An anoymous man provided you with today's history lesson.]
