November 10, 1997... Without disclosing too much information, Comic Shop News reports that although DeVito got close, there was no cigar -- the project at this point as "fallen through." [Scoop submitted by 'Widgett'.] November 25, 1997... The online entertainment news service Sci Fi Weekly reported last week that Ben Stiller (The Cable Guy, Reality Bites) was going to direct the project now. Word is DeVito's out because he couldn't lock in the soundtrack rights. [Thanks to 'writeruk' for the scoop; originally appeared on Sci Fi Weekly.]

September 22, 1998... We finally have a director:

"The September 11th edition of SHOOT magazine names Kinka Usher the director of this film. Says filming begins Oct. 7 and wraps in January. This is Kinka's first feature film - he's known for commercial work - like for Nissan, Pepsi and the got milk? campaign. He did that Nissan spot where that G.I. Joe doll comes and steals Barbie away from Ken. Just thought you'd like to know." [Scoop provided by 'anonymus'.]

September 27, 1998.... Some news concerning the casting of this project: "I'm actually surprised nobody else has sent this to you yet.  A number of trades have listed cast members who have signed to this project.  Included are:  Geoffrey Rush as the team's enemy, Casanova Frankenstein; William H. Macy as the Shoveler, a hero who wield a shovel and is mocked by his wife and kids; Hank Azaria as Blue Raja, another hero; Jeneane Garofalo, Paul Reubens, Lena Olin and Claire Florani." [Scoop provided by Rob Worley and  'DarqueGuy'] October 1, 1998... Some more corrections from this scooper: "Oliver Platt is playing the Blue Raja and Hank Azaria is playing Mr Furious.Production will begin in October and finish in January." [Scoop provided by 'The Scarlett Pumpernickel']

October 7, 1998... It had been rumored for more then two months. Finally Ben Stiller has signed on to play Mr Furious in this project. The angriest and craziest of a band of self-proclaimed superheroes, Mr Furious is fueled by a rage that stems from his parents' neglect. Shooting will begin October 21 in L-A. [Scoop provided by 'addressshabu', 'Masque' and 'samulrya'.]

October 19, 1998... We're a little behind on reporting that Greg Kinnear has come onboard this project. He will play Captain Amazing, the real superhero of the gang. He's also the reason why the Mystery Men decide to stick together...stay tuned for the script review coming soon! [Scoop provided by 'Masque', who's the only real superhero scooper.]

January 3, 1999... Mr. Furious would like to thank Brian Joines and Jordan Cohen for sending us some more names of characters. And cross your fingers gang -- if all goes well, we'll be visiting the set sometime before the end of February. Apparently it'll be filming all the way up 'til then... [Thanks Brian, Jordan.]
