June 9, 1998... Tim Shane was originally slated to direct and this adaptation of the play, but James Kerwin has since filled those pointed shoes. Shane was also set to executive produce, but plans for that have changed as well. Kit Carson and Cynthia Hargrave of the New York-based MainPix may be executive producing at this point. Word has it that Stan Winston studios is in discussions to provide the effects for the Bottom transformation. [Scoop provided anonymously.]

June 21, 1998... CA found a bunch of information regarding this project had been slipped through the mail slot in the front door. Here's what we gleaned after translating the runes:

Production is expected to start this summer. Apparently the original executive producers, Platinum, pulled out of the project and broke their contract, dealing the project a time setback and also some necessary "legal remedies." New executive producers are in place and all is moving forward again. However, all still was not well in the land of Faerie. Julie Elizabeth Lange, part-time model, part-time rocker, was supposed to both do the soundtrack for the film and play the role of Hermia. However, at the last minute, she pulled up stakes and went home. Her role will need to be recast before production can start, and again, the term "legal remedies" was used.

The tone and feel of the production are said to be more modern and edgy. Our contact reports it's "...more dramatic than comical, similar to Baz Luhrmann's Romeo [+ Juliet] adaptation... playing to the MTV crowd (contemporary music, more sex, etc.)" [Scoop provided by the anonymous 'Inside Faerie'.]

July 19, 1998... Kit Carson and Cynthia Hargrave have now officially joined the project as executive producers. Also, Steven Hacker of Realistic Productions is on board as an additional producer. Principal photography on the first segment of the film commences on August 10th. ['Inside Fairy'.]

September 15, 1998... First, the title of the film has officially changed to simply Midsummer

Realistic Productions is now one of the production companies involved. Shooting has already begun in Dallas, Texas. And the tagline is: "'Tis almost fairy time." [Scoop provided by 'That Anonymous Fairy' and also appeared in the IMDB; reported by 'Widgett,' who's a good apothecary man.]

December 14, 1998... We received this report from a crew member who worked on the current version of the film:

"Just got back from a 7 day shoot in Dallas, Texas for James Kerwin's film adaptation of William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Nights Dream the film at this point is in fact a 15 minute short written directed, and soon to be edited by Kerwin. the d.p. changed to david blood, and executive producer was Kit Carson who is using the same formula which was used with Bottle Rocket in 94. a short is made, sent to sundance where financial backing is found for the feature leingth version. i read the script for the short and was there for all the filming, and this one is gonna be cool. the entire film has no dialoge and just a few voice overs by one of the charachters Puck. the day before shooting began the main female character was fired due to schedualing difficulties, kit made a call to The Scorsese family and now Hermia is played by Dominica Scorsese. the seccond assistant director was Hunter Carson, son of Kit. you may remember Hunter from his acting days. he was the main character in the 1986 classic Invaders From Mars, remember the little red dots on their necks covered with band aids (marcellus wallace?) becides the nepitism, this one should be cool, it was a great experience for me, got to see how a film is done. really cool 4 minute opening steadycam shot." [Thanks to 'fuzzybutt' for the report]
