August 8, 1998... The film rights to this were originally optioned to Touchstone back in 1995, according to Kitchen Sink publisher Denis Kitchen. New Line acquired the rights once it went into turnaround. New Line then put another Jack the Ripper project, one developed by William Friedkin, on the curbside. Friedkin filed a lawsuit which posted some delays for this project getting off the ground. However, Kitchen states that production is supposed to kick off this fall. He also calls Alan Moore's role with the project a "consultant".

Both Ralph Fiennes and Daniel Day Lewis have been mentioned in regards to potential cast members, but nothing has been confirmed as yet. [Originally appeared in Andy Mangels' Hollywood Heroes; the Alan Moore Fan Site; Comics2Film; Cinematter; reported by 'Widgett'.]
