Death: The High Cost of Living

Genre: Fantasy/Comic Book Adaptation.

Studio: Warner Bros.
Production Company: Unknown.

Project Phase: Development Hell.

Who's In It: Unknown.
Who's Making It: Neil Gaiman (Screenwriter, Director); Don Murphy (Producer); based upon the DC/Vertigo comic book mini-series Death: The High Cost of Living by Neil Gaiman.

Premise: Once every one hundred years the embodiment of Death assumes human guise and must spend a day existing as a human being.

Release Date: Unknown.

Comments: The sibling of Dream of the Endless, Death was first featured in issue 8 of Gaiman's The Sandman series (also under development) and soon became a beloved secondary character. When DC Comics asked their reading audience which background character they would most like to see in their own series, the character of Death received the most votes. Death: The High Cost of Living was published in 1993, and since then has returned in a second mini-series.

For this property to have started development before the Sandman feature is even greenlighted, it showcases the interest people have in Gaiman's character of Death. In the comics, Death appears as a young woman dressed in a 'Gothic' matter: white pancake makeup, toussled black hair, black tank top and jeans - but always wearing an ankh necklace, which is the Egyptian symbol for life. She has a pleasant, easy-going, down-to-earth demeanor, who simply accepts that what she does is simply another facet to life. We wouldn't want to get on her mean side, though.

Rumors: Unknown.
