Rumors:

Late Fall, 1995... Steven Seagal's name has been mentioned for playing the central character of the film.

Scoop Feedback:

April 12, 1996... Someone's heard that action star Jean-Claude Van Damme and director Renny Harlin (Cutthroat Island, Die Hard 2) has expressed interest in the project. Van Damme's character would be a park ranger. [Scoop submitted by 'Acehi'.]

June 18, 1998... Finally -- we might have our first real break with this project in over two years!

"Me and my Dad were skiing at an Alaskan ski lodge (can't say where) and we met up with these guys with cameras filming the trees. Not really interesting but what caught my attention was the way they filmed the trees. They were moving the camera really fast across the trees. My dad asked them why and they said they were filming backgrounds for Abominable. The director wanted test footage for some scenes or something like that. The bigfoot was going to be CGI and they would put the trees as background. The scene had the bigfoot running from some snowmobiles. We thought it was cool and asked if they had pictures of the creature. They showed us some sketch drawings. It looks like the Wampa but without horns. One sketch was the creature over a dead body and blood dripping off its fangs. Another was a side and front view of its face and the last was a standing shot of its entire body. I hope somebody understands me. Good day!"

Don't worry; we understand what you mean. The notion the scooper is suggesting -- that the studio or production company is creating test footage to see how the monster will look -- is often used on films that rely on special makeup or visual effects to achieve a creature (or environment's) 'look'. There's a good chance that's exactly what may be happening with this project right now. [Thanks to our skiing pal 'Pinky' for providing us with the scoop!]

We've also been recently told by another person that Warner Bros. is out of the pool as a possible studios or production company for this film. [Sent in by 'The Scoop Fly'.]
