Configuring the Scala Player 1. Introduction ============ This CD-ROM or disk contains a presentation made using Scala MultiMedia Publisher PB100. It can be run on systems using the Windows, OS/2, or MS-DOS operating systems. 2. How to install and run the presentation ======================================= This section describes how to run, install and make icons for the presentation. This text is divided into sections for each supported operating system. All the sections below assume that the presentation is on a CD-ROM in drive D:. 2.1. WINDOWS 3.1 / 3.11 ------------------ Under Windows 3.1, you have a choice of running directly from the CD-ROM, or copying the presentation to your hard drive first. In either case, you can make a program group in the Program Manager containing two icons, one for starting the presentation and the other for adjusting settings for the Scala Player. How to run the presentation directly ------------------------------------ Assuming the production is on a CD-ROM in drive D:, choose Run... in the Program Manager's File menu and type d:\Minolta into the dialog, then press Enter. (You may also start it from the File Manager by double-clicking on d:\Minolta.exe.) Creating the icons ------------------ Choose Run... from the Program Manager's File menu and type d:\setup into the dialog, then press Enter. (You may also start Setup from the File Manager by double-clicking on d:\setup.exe.) Installing to hard disk ----------------------- Open the File Manager and drag the folder named "Minolta" from the CD-ROM to your preferred location on the hard disk. Then create the icons in Program Manager by opening the folder you just created on the hard drive and double-clicking the Setup icon. 2.2. WINDOWS 95 ---------- If you are running Windows 95, the author of the presentation may have chosen to make the CD-ROM "Auto-Run". This means that the presentation starts automatically when the disc is inserted into the CD-ROM drive. As with Windows 3.1 you have a choice of running directly from the CD-ROM, or copying the presentation to your hard drive first. Entries in the Start menu for starting and configuring the presentation can be created for you. Running the presentation directly --------------------------------- Choose Run... from the Start menu and type d:\Minolta into the dialog, then press Enter. You could also find the CD-ROM using My Computer or the Windows Explorer and double-click the "Minolta" icon. Creating the icons ------------------ Choose Run... from the Start menu and type d:\setup into the dialog, then press Enter. You could also find the CD-ROM using My Computer or the Windows Explorer and double-click the "Setup" icon. Installing to hard disk ----------------------- Drag the folder named "Minolta" from the CD-ROM onto your hard drive. Then go into the newly created folder and double-click "Setup". Note that if the CD-ROM was made to "Auto-Run", you must select Open in the right-mouse-button menu of the CD-ROM object, or use the Windows Explorer to view the CD-ROM contents. 2.3. OS/2 WARP --------- If your operating system is OS/2 Warp, a folder with icons for starting the presentation and configuring the Scala run-time Player must be created. You cannot run the presentation directly from the CD-ROM without creating the OS/2 icons first. Creating the icons ------------------ Open an OS/2 Shell and type d:\install.cmd then press Enter. Or open the D: drive from the Drives sub-folder of the OS/2 System folder and double-click the "Install" icon. Installing to hard disk ----------------------- Open the D: drive window from the Drives sub-folder of the OS/2 System folder. Drag the folder named "Minolta" from the CD-ROM to the hard drive location where you want to install it. Then, open the newly created folder on your hard disk and double-click the "Install" icon. This creates a folder on your desktop with icons for starting and configuring the presentation. 2.4. MS-DOS ------ Under MS-DOS you can run the production directly from the CD-ROM, or copy it to hard disk first. Running the presentation directly --------------------------------- Set the current drive to the CD-ROM drive by entering d: and then Minolta at the DOS prompt. Installing to hard disk ----------------------- You need to copy all files from the "Minolta" directory of the CD-ROM onto your hard drive. For example, if you want to install to your C: drive, type xcopy d:\Minolta c:\Minolta /s /e and press Enter. You may now run the presentation by typing c:\Minolta\Minolta.exe and pressing Enter. 3. Configuring the Scala Player ============================ To configure the Scala Player run-time module, use the "Config" icon or menu item produced by the previously mentioned install procedures, or run CONFIG.EXE from DOS. You see the Scala PL100 Player Configuration screen. For help, press F1 or click the Information button in the upper right corner of the screen. Scala is a trademark of Scala Incorporated.
