Please read this information before using KeyCAD, especially if you are upgrading from a previous version. This document includes the following sections. Using the Online Manual Upgrade Information for KeyCAD 2.0 Users Installing KeyCAD 3D version Installing Symbols files Printing in Windows(r) 3.1 Customizing File Open and Save As DXF and DWG R12 Support HP LaserJet Driver ATI Mach 64 Video Board/Driver Keyboard Shortcuts Errata to User Manual ----------------------- Using the Online Manual ----------------------- KeyCAD 3.0 includes a comprehensive online manual in an Adobe(r) Acrobat(tm) format (.pdf) on the program CD, located in the Manuals directory. Contained within this directory is the Acroread program for both Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 systems, and the .pdf files for both KeyCAD 3.0 2d and 3d manuals. Double-click on the Acroreader file and follow the onscreen instructions to install Acroreader on you computer. Use the open command under the file menu to open the manual .pdf files. To learn more about Acrobat reader, choose Adobe Acrobat reader help under the help menu of the Acroreader program. ------------------------------------------------------------ Upgrade Information for KeyCAD 2.0 Users ------------------------------------------------------------ Please note that when you install KeyCAD 3.0, it does not remove or update your copy of KeyCAD 2.0. KeyCAD 2.0 remains on your system, and you can continue to use both programs. 2.0 Drawings ------------------------ KeyCAD 3.0 can open KeyCAD 2.0 files, but once the files are saved in 3.0, you will not be able to reopen them in 2.0. To safeguard your 2.0 drawings, you should copy them into a separate directory for use with 3.0. Opening .KEY files ---------------------------------- To open files created using KeyCAD Pro 2.0, and using the .key extension, use the following steps: 1. Select Open... from the File menu. 2.When the Open dialog box appears, select "KeyCAD 2.0 format (.key)" from the Files of Type menu. 3. Select the file you want to open in KeyCAD 3.0. 4. Click the Open button. KeyCAD 3.0 will automatically convert the KeyCAD 2.0 file into the KeyCAD 3.0 format, and open the file on your desktop. Warning: If you open a file created in a previous version of KeyCAD, then save the file in KeyCAD 3.0, the file type will be updated to KeyCAD 3.0. You will not be able to re-open the files in the earlier version of KeyCAD. Removing KeyCAD 2.0 --------------------------------- If you wish to remove KeyCAD 2.0 from your system after installing KeyCAD 3.0, you can do so by following these steps: 1. Before you delete your KeyCAD 2.0 directory, move any drawings or symbols that you need to another directory. 2. Delete your KeyCAD 2.0 directory. Digitizer support ------------------------ Release 3.0 of KeyCAD does not provide support for digitizers. Hatches ------------------------ In KeyCAD 3.0 you hatch selected objects, rather than defining the area of the hatch. If you want to hatch an area rather than a selection, you can draw a polygon to define the area, select and hatch the polygon, then delete the polygon. Symbols ------------------------ KeyCAD 3.0 no longer uses .Sym symbols, but you can export .Syms files to .DXF format using KeyCAD 2.0, and then open the .DXF file in KeyCAD 3.0, and save as a .KCW file format. ------------------------------ Installing KeyCAD 3D version ----------------------------- KeyCAD 3D may be installed at anytime. When running the install for KeyCAD 3.0, a dialog box will appear during installation, which will give you a series of choices relating to additional items to be installed with KeyCAD 3.0. these options include KeyCAD 3.0 and various symbol libraries. To install KeyCAD 3D, simply run the install as described earlier in this chapter. When the install options dialog box appears, select KeyCAD 3D for installation by placing a checkmark in the corresponding box. Proceed with the installation as normal. KeyCAD 3D will be install on you computer, and will appear in the Creative Office/KeyCAD Deluxe 3.0 folder with KeyCAD 2D. Note: For instructions on running the KeyCAD deluxe 3.0 install, refer to the installation instructions at the beginning of the printed manual, or the online manual. --------------------------- Installing Symbols files --------------------------- KeyCAD Symbols files may be installed at anytime. When running the install for KeyCAD 3.0, a dialog box will appear during installation, which will give you a series of choices relating to additional items to be installed with KeyCAD 3.0. These options include KeyCAD 3.0 and various symbol libraries. To install the symbols files, simply run the install as described earlier in this chapter. When the install options dialog box appears, select the symbol files you would like to install by placing a checkmark in the corresponding box. Proceed with the installation as normal. The symbol files will be installed on your computer, and will appear in the Creative Office/KeyCAD Deluxe 3.0 folder with KeyCAD 2D. Note: For instructions on running the KeyCAD deluxe 3.0 install, refer to the installation instructions at the beginning of the printed manual, or the online manual. --------------------------- Printing in Windows(r) 3.1 --------------------------- A known problem exsits when printing from KeyCAD 3.0 2D program using Windows 3.1. If you run into problems or recieve an error message while printing in Windows 3.1, turn off the Print Manager program. This should allow correct printing. ------------------------------------------------------------ Customizing File Open and Save As ------------------------------------------------------------ The User Manual does not currently document the Setup button on the File|Open and File|Save As dialogs. This feature allows you to select between faster save/load time and smaller file size when saving .kCW files. Part of this is accomplished by allowing full or half precision saves. This feature also allows you to customize the import and export of .DXF, .DWG, .MDL, and .PLT files. If you find that opening or saving a particular file does not work as expected, or if you want to get finer control over the open or save process, you can click the Setup button and make modifications to the import or export filter settings. You may need to experiment with these settings for a while before getting the results you want, depending on the source of your files. A Model Space Viewport option is available in the import filter dialogs if you are opening a .DXF, .DWG, or .MDL file. If this option is checked, a representation of each Paper Space viewport in the foreign drawing will be imported into KeyCAD as a separate insertion of a single Model Space block. Changes that you make to these settings are persistent, meaning that they will remain in effect until you change them back. You can restore the factory settings by clicking the Set Default button on the import or export filter dialog. ------------------------------------------------------------ DXF and DWG R12 Support ------------------------------------------------------------ KeyCAD's .DXF and .DWG filters support the AutoCAD R12 version of these file formats. KeyCAD will not save features of drawings that are not supported by R12 .DXF and .DWG (for example, embedded OLE objects). ------------------------------------------------------------ HP LaserJet Driver ------------------------------------------------------------ If you are having problems with an earlier (pre-1994) HP LaserJet printer driver, you will need to set options in the File|Print Setup|Options dialog (or, in Windows 95, the File|Print Setup|Properties dialog) to print from KeyCAD. Do one of the following: -- Set the resolution to 300 DPI -- Set the resolution to 600 DPI, then switch on "Raster Graphics" and "TrueType as Graphics" ------------------------------------------------------------ ATI Mach 64 Video Board/Driver ------------------------------------------------------------ This release of KeyCAD has a known incompatibility with the ATI Mach 64 video board/driver. Under certain conditions specific characters disappear from the screen. This defect is purely cosmetic and nondestructive of data. We believe that the problem is related to font caching in this video driver. ------------------------------------------------------------ Keyboard Shortcuts ------------------------------------------------------------ Here is a complete list of keyboard shortcuts: Grid snap: ON/OFF - Ctrl+G Select all - Ctrl+A Open new file - Ctrl+O Begin new drawing - Ctrl+N Save current drawing - Ctrl+S Close current drawing - Ctrl+W Print drawing - Ctrl+P Undo last move - Ctrl+Z Redo last move - Ctrl+Y Cancel command - Esc Cut to clipboard - Ctrl+X Paste from clipboard - Ctrl+V Delete - Delete (must have at least one entity selected) Zoom IN - Add (+) Zoom OUT - Subtract (-) Zoom extents - Ctrl+Back Space Zoom full view - Shift+Back Space Zoom window - Ctrl+Home Pan to cursor - Ctrl+End Relative coordinate entry - Ctrl+R Help - F1 Context help - Shift+F1 ------------------------------------------------------------ Errata to User Manual ------------------------------------------------------------ This section lists known errors and omissions in the first printing of the User Manual.
