re: pepsi and su bars

dear chris,

those posters were distributed by third world first, a national student movement campaigning for sustainable development and social justice, to the fifty groups on campus around the uk. the su bar had to sell pepsi because of its contractual obligations - it would have been illegal and very costly for them to refuse to sell. the point of the campaign was to get students to boycott pepsi because of its investments in burma, and to get su's to pass motions condemning pepsi and advocating a boycott. we succeeded on both counts, and thanks to pressure from consumers in europe and the us pepsi have now withdrawn from burma...a good example of small, individual actions eventually achieving success in forcing a giant company to change - lets hope mcspotlight is equally successful!
