Why is there such a big focus on McDonald's

Why is there such a big focus on McDonald's being a
"multinational" company? Would the things they were alleged
to have done been more pardonable if they were simply a
very large British company? In other words, is it the size
of the organization (in terms of revenue, marketing, etc.) that
upsets you people or the fact that they do business on a globabl
scale?
