And in the end?

Presuming that in the larger picture it is mnc's in general
that are put in your spotlight, what are the implications of this case
for them? Presumably, they are watching McDonald's and just thinking
'thank heavens that isn't us'. So in the long term, no matter what
the outcome of the case, other monster corps. will be wary of bringing
such cases to court. The McLibel trial is a welcome stand against inherent
bullying tactics adopted by ALL mnc's. For so long they have maintained
a friendly and corporate community image in the North whilst playing at best
the devils' advocate and at worst a puppets master in the South.

However, mnc's, as rigourous and 'perfectly-structured machines', are
fluid, they have a survival instinct that transforms them into whatever
package means the optimum profit and effective expansion rate. This
use of PR, advertising, etc means that as the room to attack critics or
campaigners narrows, with the greater acceptance of shallow green values
amongst the general populace, they will merely swap weapons, instead
of courts read attempts to open dialogue with campaigners, instead of flag
waving the corp. banner read tacit and meagre attempts to occupy the friendly
green ground, where they can meet people like Anita Roddick and eat some of
Jerry's ice cream. Of course the South will continue to be the victim of
this planet's most viscious gang of muggers and thugs.

It may be a picture of doom and gloom this presents but it is not.
Just as the definition of the target blurs and they adopt newer
colours, so too will their place in the world. It is easy to think that
it's always the campaigners who have to follow the effects of these
corps, but more, it is the mnc's on the run. Just as they are wrapped
in their pr finery, they are their own hostages to it. They will find it increasingly
difficult to present themselves as benifactors to the earth and at the same time
screw the largest portion of it over. This hypocracy means it is
them on the run.

Perhaps therefore McSpotlight is a new step ahead then of mnc's,
the net presents a free ground, AS YET unregulated and uncontrolled spaces.
What will happen to you tho' when they march in and buy up the lot,
acting through a corp consciousness, mnc's will incur ANY loss to protect
themselves and their pr image, will rub the palms of ANY politician
to get legislation behind them, will support ANY regime that offers
access to a market and fund any action they believe will serve the corp.
body. So watch your tails, as if having the vehement eyes of McDonald's
on ya wasn't enough, a wary eye from other mnc's is no doubt there too.
