:X : Who are you Ryan?

: : Lucky America...

: Lucky America is right. McDonalds is an American success story. Just read the history on this page. Kroc built an empire out of a single store chain. That's success. That's America. I really doubt something like that could happen anywhere else. And the fact of the matter is, he didn't make McDonald's what it is today with unethical advertising tactics, immoral beef production, etc. The only reason I can see McDonald's using them today is because of the fierce competition. They may be the largest chain, but that doesn't mean that they can't suffer from other business's advances. It's supply and demand. Fast food wouldn't exist if there wasn't a demand for it. If Kroc and McDonald's didn't do it, somebody else would.

: : Many are not so small - many are owned by much larger corporations. For example, KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell are owned by Pepsico.

: Actually, they are being spun off of the parent company. Pepsico was losing money.

: McD's would get my support if they could bring themselves to provide healthy alternatives, higher quality products that were environmentally responsible and manufactured more ethically - but they're bent on keeping it cheap. If we want to eat meat, we should pay the real cost.

: And lose more business than they already have? No way. The amount of people that would actually care about environmentally sound and healthy alternatives are far outwieghed by the amount of average consumers that just want cheaper prices. McDonald's is not some evil corporation hellbent on destroying the rainforest and poisoning everyone. They're out to make a buck. If people wanted pricier, ecosafe, healthier food, McDonald's and everyother resturant would have it. What ever happened to the McLean Deluxe, or the BorderLights section of Taco Bell? Gone, no demand. Fast food is by definition, cheap and quick. I don't see many drive through health food stores around. And besides, no matter how much media influence Ronald and the crew have, you can't cover up grease with commercials. People know its fatty, and know its not your highest grade beef. Yet still companies like these grow. Like I said before, you'd have to change the mindset of Americans and the rest of the world, and then you'd see some changes in the fast food business.
