Half hour lunch breaks

Hi folks, I`m from the UK and into Wholefoods,a low meat diet, and temporarily working in Sydney, I`ve got a job in an industrial type of zone and guess what, its opposite a McDonalds! We only get half an hour break and there aren`t really any alternatives in the immediate area (less than 10 mins walk).
I pretty much dislike McDonalds but I `m sort of susceptible to the hype and thus eat the very occasional McD.. I have spoken to all my colleagues about it and we try and walk to a gourmet pie shop about 12 minutes away, but its time consuming. Its also winter here in Auss and it can bucket down. Unfortunately we have one middle aged colleague who eats the stuff everyday and no amout of arguing would change his views.

I have`nt got it together to take my own sandwiches in everyday so no recommending that to me from the purists.

I was at the National Library in Canberra looking at the McLibel case web site and sat next to me was an American guy. I asked him for help on accessing the WWW and he told me that he had never heard of the McLibel case. He looked like a fellow traveller.

I went on an outing to Bondi beach (yes it was raining again) and found a vegetarian alternative called WHAT BURGER. It had warm wooden decor, pleasant real music, wooden tables and lovely food. I think there is only one other in the whole of Australia which is a shame but it seemed really good to me. We should not have to be forced into following the narrow monoculture of McD dom that is insidiously growing around us.

As a traveller in my 40`s I meet lots of cool youngsters which keeps me young in mind and heart. But loads of them spend what I consider to be too much of their money on eating crap at McD`s. Being a man of the 70`s and 80`s more than the 90`s I`m used to lovely old quaint little cafe`s where you used to get a good nosh up for a few bob. And they were all different in character, Now there is no varietyat fast food outlets, only in the petit bourgeois cafe society which I love to frequent here in Sydney, or back home in London.
Anyway, I`m getting hungry and must depart from Sydney Uni library for my late brekfast of Vietnames bakery croissant and take away coffee.

Oh one more thing, when I went to Byron Bay it was heaven on earth and it had no fast food outlets

Cheers to you all..
