: So you think I'm naive comrade, well if you didn't realise the britsih especially under labour or liberal governemnts bowed out of nearly every imperial colony that they could. The only reason for occupation of the Falklands or N.I. is that their are citizens who wish to remain birtish.

I think it might help if you reread what you wrote:

"the britsih especially under labour or liberal governemnts bowed out of nearly every imperial colony that they could"

- couldn't and shouldn't your history as class struggle theory mean that they did not LEAVE but were forced to go, were forcibly kicked out - are you seriously telling me that India/ Pakistan didn't force the british out? that China didn't force britain out of Hong Kong - you seriously think that the British left ANYWHERE by their own valition?! come on 'comrade'.

As for Labour and the Liberals being ANY different from the Tories when it came to imperialism - poppycock. Labour made as many false promises re: independence as the tories, the Liberals (when they were a political force) were only blackmailed into accepting any kind of Home Rule in Ireland for example - and as you know so much of this history already you know that this was no form of independence, just a gaurantee of further dependance. Labour blew the first British h-bomb as a sign of Britains might - a continuation of its colonial strength. Until the theory of history as class struggle is FULLY interpreted as such and not half baked with existing ideas of party politics (as in the above where you make apologies almost for the Liberals and Labour and worst still actually state that the British left anywhere thru some sort of choice - whether that is economic imperative, human rights conciousness or whatever) it should not be abused - it is not even as if you are debating this theory or statign that you are developing it or transforming it for modern realities ... such as the fact that most occupations of power now exist with regard to MNC's, political parties playing second fiddle to them.

: you have also related to me a great deal of history that I am already aware of being from this country and I would warn you that anyone can twist history to their advantage.(I only agree with history as an expression of class struggle)

yeah yeah yeah - I'm a paddy too but this doesn't necessarily give you carte blanche and de facto control and total knowledge over all things Irish, N.I. or gaelic. As for the class struggle thing - see above and read more.

: Marx wrote a great deal about Ireland and gave a non-nationalist perspective that condoned seperation.

: An irish labour laeader also commented nationalists not seperatists.
