: The effect of CO2 emissions has not been proven by any stretch of the imagination. We don't know if global warming is happening, what is causing it if it is, what its effect would be (A little warmer weather in Canada wouldn't be bad), or how much it will increase temperature.Yes but it would be a stupid to say "we don't know whether our world will be devastated, so let's do nothing about it!"
: One should also consider the ratio of emissions to GDP instead of only emissions to population. North American countries are not out of line on this basis
Yes but we all have a responsibility to work together on this don't we? According to some estimates (Friends of the Earth UK) achieving a "safe" temperature rise of only 1 degree Centigrade requires us to cut world emmissions in half! We need all the help we can get at cutting emmissions, and the US could make a big, big difference!
