> The general gist of these arguments seems to be this, and someone please correct me if I'm wrong: The reason a utopian state has not yet come to happy fruition in this world is that we just haven't had quite the right people in charge. Now if "we" were in charge "we" could avoid all the nasty pitfalls of past generations of socialist engineers and "we" really could build a socialist utopia, with a sliding scale "size tax" etc.

When I, Capitan Freedom, decide to take my massive multinational corporation out of your country and away from your sliding scale "size tax," just exactly how will you go about tracking me down and shooting me between the eyes because I wouldn't play ball? Think about it and let me know.

Begging the captain's permission, but has he not noticed how the world economy and society is "globalising" ? One of most famous slogans of the environmentalist era is "Think globally, act locally". I believe that most people in this debating room overall are talking about a world where EVERYONE shares the same sentiments on sustainability and justice, so McD's and their ilk would have no corner to sneak into.... Fair enough, it's a big dream, but in an age of unprecedented international co-operation, and the realisation that we DO all live on the same planet, why should another country give a polluter shelter ?

Yours idealistically,

Steve
