: : One of the aspects that replys don't seem to deal with is the question of violence. Can we please have some debate on it.

: : The way I see it is that despite what Marx said, the end of capitalism is not inevitable, because it is able to adjust to changing circumstances. As such, it is up to us to kick it down. The ruling class does not let go of power with out defending it with violence, so surely we should react with violence? While I am not putting forward Class Wars 'keep it spikey' arguement, but should we not discuss active defence and fighting back against the state? Please give your views.

: I believe the Revolution will be a somewhat bloody one. Because of this I believe in the right to bear arms. The people simply put need to be able to defend themselves. The establishment will not give up power because the majority thinks they should, they will keep a strangle hold on it until the bitter end. If setting the military upon the general populace is the only way for them to keep power they'll do it. Understand that I don't believe the working class should wage some kind of war but if the government turns its guns upon us we should be able to defend ourselves. By the way I do believe that the downfall of capitalism is inevitable. However, it will come sooner and be more organized with stiff political opposition from the working class.

I disagree with GlennyRed, I believe whether or not a socialist revolution will be a bloody will depend on a couple of factors.
Firstly, if there are A LOT of people (at least hundreds of thousands) forcing ruling class out by sheer numbers, then the chances of a bloodless revolution will be good. Take Russia, it has been documented in John Reed's Ten Days That Shook The World, that hardly anybody was killed during the October revolution. More people were killed during filming the damn thing!(No shit, look it up).

Secondly, it is key that the army has to take the side of the working class. In Albania, the government had to fled because the army would not shoot the people: rank & file soldiers were not too keen on the idea of potentially killing their family members.

Though I do agree with Glenny that the downfall of capitalism is inevitable. With a system that benefits so very few people, it is bound to be toppled.
