You may be right about the role of anarchists in the demo, I wasn't there. But I have read the accounts of people who were there and that is what they saw. It only takes a few rowdy individuals to unleash the full brutality of the police upon anyone and everyone they can get their hands on.

About sacking people for attacking the state, you've brought up a rather complex subject. Militant Labour, being a centrist organization, must appeal not only to those actively resisting but also to the majority of politically unsophisticated people throughout the world. Most peoples' only contact with the demo was through establishment newspapers and television stations. The demo had to appear peaceful, organized and most of all unthreatening. This is one of the huge drawbacks of centrist organizations. Unfortunately, people are not ready for a true Revolutionary party and that is why there are no strong Trotskyist organizations around. The nature of Trotskyist organizations is that they will tolerate no concessions and will push only for a popular revolution and a complete dismantling of capitalism, states and their governments.
