: : : If you think that Militant Labour can achieve anything, then you are as
: : : naive as the idiot who put the original anti communist message up. look at the role militant played in attempting to sabotage the anti poll tax movement in Britain.

: : You're confusing me. I'm reading a book right now called A Time To Rage by a man named Tommy Sheridan. The same Tommy Sheridan who was elected to a city council spot while in jail. The same Tommy Sheridan who was one of the driving forces behind the anti-poll tax campaign. The Tommy Sheridan who when this book was written was an active member of Scottish Militant Labour. If Militant Labour has changed since then write me back, but as far as I know they seem to have hit the nail right on the head. They backed the Anti-Poll tax campaign. When the Labour Party failed to successfully organize an effective resistance it was SML that got the job done.

: Sorry this reply took so long.
: Firstly, militant attempted to channel resistance to the poll tax into none starting campaigns such as calling for people to vote labour. (I fail to see how this would of stopped the tax.) An example of this is when labour won the Mid-Staffs bi-election militant claimed it as a victory for themselves, failing to mention that the new M.P. was a close personal friend of Neil Kinnock.
: Militants role in the anti poll tax movement can be clearly seen, when you look at their reaction to the battle of trafalgar square. Instead of looking at it as a victory which marked the inevitable end of the tax, it was condemned (Perhaps because it showed working class fighting back and organising amongst themselves.)

: 'We are going to hold our own internal enquiry which will go public and if necessary name names.'(Steve Nally,ITN,1st. April 1990)

: 'Our federation is going to be conducting an internal enquiry to try and root out the trouble makers.'(Tommy Sheridan,LWT News,1st. April 1990)
: (Original source 'Poll Tax Riot')

: Tommy Sheridan may of been willing to go to prison for none payment, but so were 3 million others who had no wish to see the poll tax as a way of helpin militant regain its dwindling support amongst the scumbag hierarchy of the labour party. The poll tax was abolished by self organisation by the working class. Militant was and still is, only truely interested in control of opposition.

It's true militant is for the most part a centrist organization, but the drive of certain individuals such as Tommy Sheridan produce positive results. By the way you took those quotes way out of context. The reason for those comments was the role of Anarchists in the demo. A bunch of Anarchists showed up at the peaceful demonstration and started some fires and some scuffles with the police. Because of this the media condemned the demo and those two, being two big names, were forced to make statements. You failed to mention that part. Don't believe everything to read in the papers. If it wasn't for the anarchist element they too would see it as a victory. I agree with everything you say about the Labour Party and I think most of Militant Labour would agree too. Why did they split from Labour in the first place?
