Well, I think it can be peaceful, if you look at Rumania et al, they managed to carry of successful revolts without resorting to storming the barricades- and if the revolutionary party first seizes the state's repressive apparati first, then there is a good shot at a peaceful transition. It does not good expecting a fight- that way you'll get one. Be prepared for one, but do everything to avoid it....
