K. wasn't right at all I'm afraid. What he argued makes good sense for concious animals, and it is a bit damning that our own species seems to prefer the nature red in tooth and claw approach. his theories really break down though when they are applied to our less sentient cousins. They being our animal and vegtable companions. For those with a bit of stamina you might like to read 'The Selfish Gene' by Richard Dawkins, perhaps the most influential evolutionary biology text this century or those woth something else to do this evening can check out Stephan Jay Gould's assessment of the man in his book of essays 'Bully for Brontosaurus' in the section of biography. Gould is an eminent scientific writer and his work is laudibly accessible so don't be put off, you could read it over a Big Mac at lunch.
It is an interesting subject though, and alot of people could do with takeing our Russian friend's ideas onboard.
