The Socialists cannot provide an answer to your question.

They know that socialism, in its purest form, discourages independent effort, since all goods produced over the "state's" determiniation of what is needed, is redistributed to those less willing to put forth an effort. So, eventually, no one being able to profit from their effort equals no one willing to put forth effort beyond what is needed to survive. Of course, socialism still has its "Fat Cats"; those party officials or government faithful always seem to be quite a bit more "equal" than the common worker, don't they?
