And it is also important not to confuse socialism with just an economic system. Integral to socialist ideology is international solidarity and multicultural openness. Early socialist leaders like Trotskij and Lenin even said that for socialism to work completely, it is required that socialists all over the World organize (that is why Lenin founded the 3. International (Comintern)) and cooperate. Trotskij stated that war and socialism are incompatible (the Bolsheviks' first foreign action under Lenin and Trotskij was to draw Russia out of the First World War). So yes, a political ideology like socialism has much to do with foreign policy as well.
