: Gerard, it is not only about under who's governance we wish to be unemployed and it certainly isn't the case that you should not care who 'OWNS' this land - surely it should be heartfelt that no-one owns it but we may have a responsibility towards it - a relationship of sorts that means we exist within the environment as a component part but not totally dominant force.

I think you make a good point here comrade after all Ireland is a standing example of Franz Fanon was talking about in his books on new imperialism or colonialism. Contrary to what you may think I agree with a lot of what your saying because the N.Ireland example of guerilla warfare has lapsed over into terrorism at times of hightened emotion I cant treat it as an example of revolution in my opinion.

:and (vaguely) marxist ideology

Why vaguely Marxist I would believe it wholly Marxist, at times, the 1916 rising was largely the work of the Marxist/syndicalist/socialist Irish Citizen Army because the Bourgousie Irish Volunteers chickened out. In the '60's the sticks (officials) wouldnt give guns to the provisionals because they envisaged a combined community class war at the time underestimating how far to the right the protestant community had moved. The provisionals then became a proletarian vanguard building barricades just like the revolutionaries of France or the U.S. in 68. I must stress that this was necessary in my opinion because civil rights did not exist now that they do we can democratically negotiate a settlement.

Sadly the now democratic republicans (possibly to pander for u.s. funds) have betrayed the left political agenda leveling it to hardly reliable gangster factions like the INLA.

Ironically groups like the PUP (while they maintain a communitarian dogma) are employing policies which are substantually further to the left possibly because they are not pandering to the americans.

I still dont care who is my soverigen.
