: I have read that ifthere were a union in McDonalds, there could be better working conditions. But you have to remember a Union is just like an employer. You have to PAY DUES.

Of course you have to pay dues to the union. How else could it function? But that's not the same as paying "dues" to your corporate master. Union dues are a fixed amount taken from your paycheck. Contrast that with corporate "dues": you are paid, let's say, seven dollars an hour for your factory assembly-line job. You will make that same seven dollars an hour, regardless of how much profit you produce for the boss. The more work you churn out, the more revenue you produce for the capitalist, the more "dues" you're giving to your master.

: They say that they work for you to gain better wages, conditions, etc. But the MAIN fact is they want those dues payed!A company will only give you what they want you to have.

If they don't want you to have a living wage and safe working conditions, you won't get them. But it beats paying union dues.

: SO if that company does not give you what empolyees want, do not work for them. You could go on strike, hold out for what you want.

One-person strikes have a predictable outcome: termination. Strikes are only effective when they're done en masse by workers. And who organizes such strikes? (Hint: five letter word beginning with "u")

: But in this day an age the company will either close or move to some other
: place to reopen. This does not help anyone but the company. UNIONS ARE NOT THE ANSWER!

You're right. I think I'll write a polite letter to my congressman instead.

Unions ARE the answer. Labor solidarity is the only way to overcome capitalist abuses. Organize, or die.
