Day 260 - 11 Jun 96 - Page 02

                                          Tuesday, 11th June, 1996

MS. STEEL: I have not got my papers out yet.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I dare say you have been talking to counsel.
You must try and stick to the timetable. I am not averse
to you having a few minutes now and again, but we really
have to start at half past 10 every morning. If it
involves you making arrangements so that you can be here at
10 to talk about anything, you must do that. Otherwise,
I am just going to start at 10.30, come what may.

MR. RAMPTON: Can I just say some things while the Defendants
       are organising themselves?

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MR. RAMPTON: Mrs. Brinley-Codd overnight did what she
understood your Lordship was going to do on your account.
She has produced a file with the inquiry agents' notes
chronologically inside the file, and paginated. If your
Lordship would like one of those, if your Lordship would
like a paginated bundle identical to the one that the
witness has and the one that I have -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I would, if I had not spent over two hours
       last night doing it myself.

MR. RAMPTON: I know that your Lordship said you were going to
       do it yourself last night.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Apart from anything else, I had various
copies; and what I have done is filleted out ones -- for
instance, I have double copies of some; some are not quite
the same; where they are not quite the same, I have kept
the fuller copies in and taken the lesser copies out.
I have already made some underlinings.

MR. RAMPTON: We can certainly produce ------

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I think the answer probably is that I had
better have the one you have, as well, because I must have
whatever the witness has; and when we have been going for a
while, I will see which I prefer to work on.

MR. RAMPTON: We will do it overnight, so that your Lordship has
that as an additional one. The other thing we have done is
to copy the photographs which we produced yesterday.
I suggest that those go into volume pink 2 at tab 5A, since
all, except for the photographs of Mr. Morris, relate to
the demonstration on 16th October 1989. There are three
       sets.

MR. MORRIS: Just on the documents, a question. It would be
helpful if we had the same as everyone else as well, if it
is possible. I am not saying that the Plaintiffs have to
do that, but it would be helpful in getting through this.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You obviously should have copies of the
bundles, or at least an index, so that can make up your
