Day 185 - 07 Nov 95 - Page 02

                                     Tuesday, 7th November 1995

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Before we continue, there are just two
matters I would like to mention. Firstly, I would be
grateful if someone could provide me with a fresh copy of
Sarah Baker's statement; it does not matter who it comes
from, but if someone could just photocopy a relatively
clean copy and give it to me in due course.

The second matter is this, I need to find two clear days,
if it is possible, at or about the beginning of December to
       deal with another case.

MR. MORRIS: The beginning of December?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, early in December.

MR. MORRIS: I have actually -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What I would like to do, if it is possible,
is take two periods of two days, not necessarily next to
each other, so that I can give them to the person who is
responsible for listing election petitions, which is what
the case is, so that she may be able to fix the case for
two of the days I can make available.

  MR. MORRIS: Right.

MR. RAMPTON: How near to the beginning of December does
your Lordship wish to be with that fellow -- if I can call
       it that?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It does not have to be right at the beginning
at all. I would like it not to be right up against the end
       of term.

  MR. RAMPTON: No.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: So I would like it in the first half of
December. I mean, it occurs to me at the moment that
Thursday 7th, Friday 8th, Monday 11th and Tuesday 12th do
not have anything in. Had you got someone you thought
       might come on those days?

MR. MORRIS: I have got Mr. Alimi on 4th and 5th December,
because he has agreed to vacate 16th November and appear on
the 4th and 5th. Ray Coton agreed to be on the Wednesday,
as asked; and it certainly would be prudent to have him go
over on the Thursday, if necessary. But that is depending
on Mr. Rampton, whether he is going to cross-examine him or
not, much -- if he would like to give an indication of
       that?

MR. RAMPTON: May I certainly say that I think it would be
entirely prudent to allow Mr. Coton two days.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Has anyone got any -----

MR. MORRIS: Apart from that, there is nobody specifically
scheduled for the Friday or the following week.
