Day 125 - 12 May 95 - Page 02

                                          Friday, 12th May, 1995.

                    MR. ROBERT BEAVERS, recalled
                 Cross-Examined by the Defendants, continued.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I am sorry to hear of your family's
       bereavement, Mr. Morris.

MR. MORRIS: Thank for cancelling yesterday.

MR. JUSTICE BELL (To the witness): I am sorry if you have been
inconvenienced, but one has to have priorities,
       Mr. Beavers.

MR. MORRIS: We are certain we will finish today.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Good, yes. I think you can do, obviously,
having got this far, as we obviously must so that
       Mr. Beavers can go home.

MR. MORRIS (To the witness): Could I ask you a couple of
questions -- the first question is, do you know Steve
       Copeland?
       A. Yes, I do.

  Q. Do you know what his present position is?
       A. As I understand it, he still works with our Labour
Relations Department. He has had international
responsibility for Labour Relations Department for a number
       of years.

  Q. Where is he now based?
       A. In the USA.

MR. MORRIS: Is it appropriate to ask the witness about their
intention to call Mr. Copeland or not?

MR. RAMPTON: No, my Lord. That is a matter for me and my
solicitors obviously in discussion with the clients, but
Mr. Beavers is not in a position to answer questions about
       that.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What Mr. Rampton has said is quite right.
But, on the other hand, there is no harm in you making some
enquiry if the purpose, for instance, is the very
reasonable one of knowing whether you need to ask
Mr. Beavers something because Mr. Copeland may not come
into the witness box. Is that your purpose, really?

  MR. MORRIS: Not exactly, no.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do not ask it just for comment sake because
you can always make any comment on the calling or not
calling of witnesses when we know who has been called at
the end of the day. What one makes of it, one would have
       to see.

MR. MORRIS (To the witness): Is he still involved in the
       International Department?
       A. I am not certain what his current responsibilities
