category of the 40 year cycle or is that completely
       different?
       A. Again this entirely varies with the species and the
region but, certainly, the southern areas of Canada as
opposed to the hard north would have cycles of 40, 50 years
rather than 80 or 100 years within the category of product
that we are talking about here which is sawmill product
       together with pulpwood.

  Q. Regarding the 40 year evidence in southern Scotland, are
there other forests which supply that mill or other mills
which would have a longer cycle? Is that typical of all
       forests in southern Scotland?
       A. These figures have been provided by the Forest
Enterprise who are the major suppliers, I would have said
almost exclusively the suppliers to the particular mill
concerned, Iggesund, other than their imported pulp. And,
as you will note here, he says that the cycle of 40 years
relates to south Scotland and north of England, so it is a
sufficiently wide area to provide their needs.

  Q. Do they also get supplies from, as far as you know, the
north of Scotland as well? Is that the flow countries, the
       north of Scotland?
       A. The flow country and the Caithness area is north, yes.
But it is most improbable they are getting it from there
because there is a sufficiency of supply in the region
referred to here which is why Mr. Thompson used those
       figures.

  Q. But you are just assuming that; you do not know they only
       get supplies from that region?
       A. I am obviously not in a position to know, not only
their purchasing policy in precise terms or exactly what
came at any given moment in time that might be relevant
here, but certainly there is no need for it to come from
the far north of Scotland at all.

  Q. The first paragraph, is that saying that we are looking at
a typical 40 hectares; is that correct?
       A. I think that would be correct, yes.

  Q. It says: "We have three lots of thinnings and a clear fell
       of one hectare".

MR. JUSTICE BELL: "Within the same 40 hectare area of forest",
       is that right?
       A. That is correct.

MR. MORRIS: But its three lots of thinnings in a generation?
       A. Three thinnings and a clear -----

  Q. Not per year?
       A. No, no, three thinnings in the whole cycle of that area
       of forest.

  Q. Yes, but in the next paragraph he says that there will be
60 cubic metres to a metre of the thinnings and 300 cubic
metres from the clear fell; the total would be 480 cubic
metres each year from 40 hectares. So, has he included the
