Tuesday 13th September, 1994.

DR. ARNOTT, Recalled.
Cross-Examined by the Defendants, continued.

MR. MORRIS: There are just three documents to serve this
morning which I have served on the other side ----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MR. MORRIS: -- to put in your files. I will hand them up. The
first one is just what might be called a CV of Dr. David
Wright. The second one, the report wanted yesterday, Diet
and Chronic Degenerative Diseases Prospective study from
China by T. Colin Campbell, our Civil Evidence Act Notice
witness. This is a summary he wrote of it for publication
in 1994. The actual report is 900 pages, so I do not
propose to get that out unless it is absolutely
essential. So hopefully that is -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I will put that behind his statement. Are
you going to put any more of it to Dr. Arnott?

MR. MORRIS: I do not think so.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You are not obliged to. We will see what
Mr. Rampton wants to do, if anything, about that.

MR. MORRIS: If he brings it up, maybe we can just come back on
it if there are any thoughts on it. The other thing is a
substantial extract, a relevant extract, from the World
Health Organisation Report 1990. I think it is just a
relevant extract; obviously, it is a massive report on
diet related chronic diseases. I am sorry I have not the
front sheet. I did not do this myself. I do not know
where we should put that. We could put it behind
Dr. Arnott's references.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I suggest we do for the moment.

MR. MORRIS: I think that is all on documents.

MS. STEEL (To the witness): I just wanted to come back a bit
on some of the things you said previously. When Mr.
Rampton was asking you, you gave the relationship between
cigarette smoking and lung cancer on a scale of one to
ten. Was that the proven causal relationship you were
talking about?
A. I would say that it is -- there is good evidence that
there is a causal relationship between cigarette smoking
and lung cancer.

Q. Because you were not actually asked that initially; it was
after that question that you were asked that.
A. It is not all forms of lung cancer. This is
important. I do not want to make the thing more
complicated from a scientific point of view, but lung
cancer, there are about four different kinds of lung
cancer. You categorise these depending on when you look
