August 30: Judge Lance Ito holds a chambers conference in the courtroom to discuss the prosecution's rebuttal case.

September 1: A day after Judge Lance Ito ruled to exclude all but two excerpts of the Fuhrman tapes, the defense shifted its strategy and announced plans to call a half-dozen witnesses to attack Fuhrman's character. The defense also spent time challenging the ruling. Defense attorney Johnnie Cochran Jr. called  it ''incoherent'' - the same word the judge had used to describe the defense's initial motion to introduce the tapes.
