prot_tut ======== prot_tut has been developed for second year undergraduate biochemistry students at Leicester University. This gives them "hands on" experience of protein structures using interactive molecular graphics on a Mac with colour screen. It starts by introducing secondary structural elements before presenting structures which are of particular interest in Leicester. The tutorial requires version 2.3 of David Richardson's Kinemage program, which is available with the journal Protein Science. The tutorial is loaded from within the program and is intended to be self explanatory. The tutorial comes as a text file (and should also work with the PC version of Kinemage). Please feel free to ammend it to suit your own needs. The program (in Mac or PC versions) and a set of 40 examples from the book "Introduction to Protein Structure" (C. Branden and J. Tooze (1991), Garland Press, New York - a strongly recommended read to those who have not seen it) are available for US$ 9.95 from Garland Publishing, 1000A sherman Avenue, Hamden CT 06514 USA (fax 203 230 1186) It should be noted that prot_tut is supplied on an "as is" basis. Any queries or comments can, however be directed to either Clive Bagshaw (crb5@le.ac.uk) or Mike Sutcliffe (sjm@le.ac.uk).
