Using the Cardinal 2400MNP & 2450MNP with FLASHlink --------------------------------------------------- FLASHlink has been designed as a powerful communications package supporting MNP. FLASHlink supports both MNP modems (hardware MNP) and Hayes AT command compatible non-MNP modems (software MNP). A hardware MNP modem, such as the Cardinal 2400MNP or 2450MNP, places greater requirements on the communications software than a non-MNP modem. These additional requirements include the following: - Auto baud adjust DISABLE. The data link between the PC and the modem must be higher than the modem's connect rate. For the modem to compress the data being transmitted, achieving a higher throughput, it must be able to get the data from the PC at higher rates. With the Cardinal 2400MNP & 2450MNP modems, the data link with the PC should be at 9600 bps. - Hardware handshake must be enabled. When the data link and the modem connect rate differ, it is necessary to have a handshake between the two to prevent the modems data buffer from overflowing. - Efficient file transfer protocol. Ymodem-G is a protocol that is designed to be used with MNP. When operating in the error free environment provided by MNP, it is not necessary to use a file transfer protocol with error correction built in. In fact protocols such as Xmodem and Ymodem tend to operate slower in the MNP environment. To use FLASHlink with the Cardinal 2400MNP & 2450MNP modems the following setup should be performed: SETUP MENU Dial Prefix: AT\N3\Q3\C1\V1\J0DT Modem Setup: AT&F&C1&D2&S1 : : Dial Level MNP: Y Answer Level MNP: Y Auto Baud Adjust: OFF Flow Control: CTS/RTS DIALING MENU Name Number Log MNP Setting ....... ........ .
