═══ 1. Changing the refresh rate ═══

To change the refresh rate of the OS/2 PM display: 

 1. Select a new refresh rate using the refresh rate radio buttons. 

 2. Try the new refresh rate.  When you press the Try button, your screen will 
    be set to the new rate for 3 seconds.  It will then return to the refresh 
    rate  in effect when you booted-up your computer. 

 3. Save the new refresh rate. 

 4. Close the Number Nine GXE object, shutdown OS/2, and reboot your computer. 


═══ 1.1. Refresh rate ═══

The refresh rate is the frequency with which the screen is redrawn. At a 
refresh rate of 60Hz, the screen image is redrawn 60 times per second. 

The higher the refresh rate, the steadier the image on the screen.  You will 
want to select the highest refresh rate your monitor can display correctly. 


═══ 2. Finding the current refresh rate ═══

When you open the Number Nine GXE object, one of the four refresh-rate buttons 
is selected.  The selected button indicates the current refresh rate. 


═══ 3. Trying a new refresh rate ═══

To try a new refresh rate, select the Try button. 

Your screen will go black for a moment and then return at the new refresh rate. 
After three seconds, your screen will again go black, then return to the 
refresh rate in effect when OS/2 started. 

If your screen looked stable at the new refresh rate, you may save it. 

If your screen did not look stable, do not save the new refresh rate. Some 
monitors will not function correctly at the higher refresh rates. Such monitors 
can be damaged if operated beyond their capacity. 

To help you avoid choosing too high a refresh rate by mistake, you cannot save 
a new refresh rate before you try it. 

"Try" is unavailable on the GXE64 Pro.  Be careful that the refresh rate you 
save is within the capabilities of your monitor. 


═══ 4. Selecting a new refresh rate ═══

To select a new refresh rate, you may click with your mouse on one of the four 
radio buttons.  Or you may select a radio button by using the cursor keys on 
your keyboard. 

The radio button selected when you first open the Number Nine GXE object is the 
current refresh rate. 

While the current refresh rate is selected, the Try button is inactive. When 
you select a new refresh rate, the Try button is activated. 


═══ 5. Saving a new refresh rate ═══

To save a refresh rate, press the Save button.  The next time you start OS/2, 
your monitor will operate at the new refresh rate. 

To help you avoid saving a refresh rate that is not appropriate for your 
monitor, the Save button is activated only after you have tried a new refresh 
rate.  Do not save a refresh rate that appears unsteady when you try it. 

The Number Nine GXE sets and saves refresh rates separately for different 
resolutions. 

If you change the resolution of the PM desktop, you may initially find the 
refresh rate back at the default 56Hz or 60Hz.  If you return your desktop to a 
previously selected resolution, the refresh rate will return to the value you 
last saved at that resolution.
