The graphics suite KDE

Linux-Mandrake is supplied with the graphical desktop KDE (K Desktop Environment) already preconfigured.

The version of KDE delivered with Linux-Mandrake differs slightly from the original version as a new function has been added: it allows you to preconfigure the desktop for each users with a choice of icons (shortcuts to programs, files or URLs). This is possible by placing the appropriate .kdelnk files in the directory /opt/kde/share/apps/kfm/preconf/ ).

To launch KDE, just type "startx".

To exit, click on "Disconnection" in the "K" menu (bottom left) or right-button click on the desktop (in the background) and likewise choose "Disconnection".

There is a lot to say for KDE: more than an graphical interface, it is a genuine environment which allows you to work pleasantly with the mouse under Linux! Its functions are very advanced and will astonish you. You will find two complete guides on KDE in the directory /doc on your CD-ROM.
