Burning Monkey Solitaire 2
by Kit Pierce

Every so often, you find a game that touches your heart, brings you closer to your father, and entertains you for hours. This is that game's sequel.

Burning Monkey Solitaire 2 from Freeverse software is a wonderful extension of the original. After playing is for far too many hours in preparing this review, I discovered that it is at least half as much fun as the original. You still get the jokes and jibes from the gallery that are so bad they must be funny: "Human so dumb human trip over the cordless phone," and "Human so dense light bends around human."

The graphics are sharp, the artwork is great, and the sounds are always funny. Like the original, you still get to discover "Why Burning" is all of its graphic detail, but you don't get consistent gratification. Now all four of the gallery monkeys are a viable target, not just Jared, but sometimes you miss.

You get your choice of five decks, and you can either listen to the maddening music provided with the game, or choose your own Quicktime soundtrack. The game also keeps track of your statistics, in all of their gory detail. I could watch the statistics screen for minutes on end. No really. Try it.

You will never play the same game twice, unless you specifically tell the game that you want to. Nice feature. You find a winning hand and you can keep winning and winning and winning... Again, a feature I found handy.

The game isn't limited to just one type of Klondike. There's also Strict Klondike, Freecell, Canfield, Pyramid, Golf, Calculation, Little Spider, Will o' the Wisp, and the only solitaire game I can consistently win -- 52 Card Pick Up!

This game has so many features. Casino scoring, floating cards, extensive cheating options, the ability to play mp3s via Quicktime 4... For serious grins, try the "Boss Coming" feature (please put your soda down when you do -- I'm not responsible for any spit-takes). I'm glad I waited until July 4 to review this one, too. Neat little seasonal easter egg. And if you're any fan of Freeverse (and all of their traditions), you gotta' check out the "About Burning Monkey Solitaire" under the Apple Menu and the online rules for each game.

I love this game! I love Freeverse! Download Burning Monkey 2! Pay the shareware fee! Play this game! And click on the monkeys.
