Microsoft® Outlook Express Macintosh Edition enables you to communicate with others on the Internet through electronic mail and newsgroups. With electronic mail, or e-mail, you can exchange messages and files with other people on the Internet. Internet newsgroups consist of messages by individuals, organized by topic. You can take part by posting a message of your own, responding to a message, or sending an e-mail message directly to the author of a message. Outlook Express Macintosh Edition presents new features that make e-mail even easier!

Multiple signature support
Multiple signature support lets you be creative with your e-mail messages. You can specify a group of signatures to be part of your "random list" and Outlook Express will select one from the list for each outgoing message. Or, you can specify a signature for each message. For more information on signatures, see Creating a signature.

Colored quotes
Reading mail with quoted material is easier. Each level of quotation has its own unique color. See Setting up colored quote text for more information.

Drag and drop install
Installing Outlook Express is as easy as dragging the folder to the location you want to install it!

Self-repairing application
Outlook Express is easier than ever to maintain because it will automatically fix things that are broken by itself. You don't have to do anything!

Reformat text automatically
Use Auto Text Clean Up to straighten quotation marks, rewrap paragraphs, remove quoting, and change text from upper to lower case, and vice versa. For information, see Formatting a message with Auto Text Clean Up.

Message list features
Additions to the message list make you more efficient. Now you can:

Attachment handling
With support for AppleDouble you can send and receive files without having to worry about what type of computer your recipients use. For more information on encoding, see Changing the message attachment encoding.

Rule and scripting improvements
Increased rule support helps keep you organized.

For more information on Rules and AppleScript support, see Automating tasks for mail messages using rules, Automating tasks for news messages using rules, and Scripting Outlook Express.

HTML mail
Use the Fonts command from the Format menu to specify the font for outgoing HTML messages. For more information, see Applying styles to a message.

Send messages now or later
Use the Send Later button to store your messages in the Outbox so that you can send them all at once. Outbox messages will be sent when you use the Send All or Send & Receive commands, or during the scheduled Send & Receive as specified in Preferences. For more information on sending messages, see Sending a mail message and Posting a message to a newsgroup.
