Title: VO701322.DOC Date: 96/01/15 Version: 3.22 ================================================================== PLEASE READ THIS FILE BEFORE BEGINNING THE DRIVER INSTALLATION. ================================================================== What this package contains: =========================== This diskette contains the Chips & Technologies 65545 Drivers for OS/2 2.1x & WARP on IBM ThinkPad models 701C & 701CS. Do not use these drivers on any other systems. These device drivers are specifically designed to maximize performance & function of OS/2 on the ThinkPad 701C & 701Cs systems. This is version 3.22 of the device driver package. OS/2 users installing one of these drivers will see significant performance & appearance improvements compared to the default VGA driver. This package contains one diskette image. The following instructions will guide you through creating the diskette & installing the software. You will need one 3.5" diskette, formatted for 1.44 Meg. Creating the diskettes: ======================= 1. Download the VO701322.EXE file to your workstation in binary mode (WITHOUT character translation or line feed & carriage return insertion). 2. Format one 2MB diskette to 1.44MB. 3. Use LOADDSKF to create the new diskette: Example: LOADDSKF VO701322.DSK A: LOADDSKF can be obtained from IBM separately. ================================================================== YOU ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO WRITE PROTECT THIS DISKETTE & PROTECT IT AS YOU WOULD ANY OTHER ORIGINAL SOFTWARE DISKETTE. ================================================================== Features ======== 1. Windows (tm) programs can be run in "seamless" fashion with these drivers. You can also run Windows applications in fullscreen mode if you prefer. To change session type: click right mouse button (assuming right- handed mouse setup) on object to display options menu. Click on arrow on 'Open' line, to display Open options list. Click on 'Settings' to open settings notebook. Click on 'Session' page tab to display session type options. Choose fullscreen or windowed session type. 2. When using a display driver resolution greater than 640x480, with the display device set to "LCD" or "LCD and CRT", the driver will only show a 640x480 "window" of the larger desktop. This "window" will move automatically when you move the mouse pointer against the edge of the screen, allowing you to slide the 640x480 "window" to view any portion of the larger desktop. This feature is called "panning", & it eliminates the need to reconfigure OS/2 when switching between a high resolution monitor and the internal LCD display. When you change the display device to "CRT", you will see the entire 800x600 or 1024x768 mode you have selected. Please make certain your external monitor will support the high resolution modes before switching the display device to "CRT" (only). 3. 640x480x16M colors are supported. WIN-OS/2 ======== Please note the following limitations regarding WIN-OS/2. 1. The WIN-OS/2 full screen session should be set to Enhanced Capability. The default setting is Standard Mode. If this setting is not changed, Windows will not run correctly. 2. WIN-OS/2 should be started by selecting the WIN-OS/2 Full Screen Icon in the Command Prompts folder, or with the WIN command in a DOS Full Screen or OS/2 Full Screen session. 3. Do not start WIN-OS/2 in a DOS or OS/2 Window. The system does not support the enhanced video mode being used in a window, and therefore will not run. 4. When running a full screen WIN-OS/2 session, do not use ALT-HOME to switch to Windowed DOS session. Driver diskette copy ==================== For proper installation of OS/2 drivers, all diskette copies must be properly labeled "CTDISP 1". To copy the OS/2 Display Driver Diskette, follow these instructions: Step 1: Copy all files on the OS/2 Display Driver Diskette as you normally would onto another diskette. Step 2: Place the diskette copy in drive A. At the C:\ prompt, type LABEL A: CTDISP 1 to properly label your diskette. Then store your diskette copy in a safe place. Installation of Chips & Technologies 655XX Drivers for OS/2 WARP ================================================================ *************************** Warning ****************************** Before installation of any SVGA display driver, the system display should be set to VGA mode. DO NOT install this driver package if the system display is set to anything other than 640x480x16 VGA mode. To restore VGA mode, use Selective Install and select VGA for Primary Display, or run the SETVGA utility. ****************************************************************** Step 1: Open an OS/2 full screen or windowed session. Step 2: Place the CHIPS 65545 Display Driver Diskette in drive A. Type A: to make this the default drive. Type INSTALL A: C: where A: is the floppy disk drive and C: is the hard disk partition containing \OS2 Once the Install Program is completed, do a system shutdown and reboot. A log of the information output during the install can be found in :\OS2\INSTALL\CTINSTL.LOG Step 3: After the system has rebooted, do the following depending on which version of OS/2 is installed: A) OS/2 2.1x Open an OS/2 full-screen or windowed session. At the OS/2 prompt, type DSPINSTL to install the new device driver and configure the video system. B) OS/2 Version 3 Open the System Setup folder and run Selective Install to install the new device driver and configure the video system. Follow the instructions on the screen to set up the OS/2 display drivers in your system. First, select Primary Display from the System Configuration Window. From the list of Primary Display Adapter Types, select Chips and Technologies 65545 and then select OK. After the install program has completed, the display driver will be initialized for 640x480x256 Color. Shutdown and then reboot the system for the installed changes to take effect. To switch to a different video resolution or color depth, do the following: Change Video Resolution ======================= Step 4: To change the screen resolution or color depth: Open the System Setup folder, then open System. From the list of available screen resolutions, select a new resolution. Point to the title-bar icon and double click. See Changing Screen Resolution in OS/2 Users Guide for more information. The system must now be shut down and restarted for changes to take effect. NOTE: Always use the INSTALL.CMD for the FIRST installation of the video device drivers. Thereafter, to change video resolutions, do Step 4 above. The command file will copy the following files to C: C:\OS2\SVGA.EXE -- original saved as SVGA.ESV C:\OS2\INSTALL\DSPINSTL.EXE -- original saved as DSPINSTL.211 -- this file NOT copied on WARP C:\OS2\SCREEN01.SYS -- original saved as SCREEN01.SSV (if present - otherwise you may see the message, "File Not Found" - this is OK) C:\OS2\MDOS\VSVGA.SYS C:\OS2\CHIPS.SYS C:\OS2\INSTALL\CT65545.DSC The command file will also run SETLBA.EXE which will modify CHIPS.SYS with this adapter's linear buffer address obtained from BIOS.
