Output Options

Details on Output Options Fields:
Hit Line Display: When checked -
Display Files Without Hits lists filenames where no occurrences of the search string were found. Note that if this is the only box checked, the display will not list files were the search string is present.
Display First Hit Line lists the filenames and the highlighted context of where the search string was found. If you are searching across multiple lines, the first line of the hit will be displayed. Note that if this is the only box checked, you will only get feedback from files where the search string was found.
Display Replace String lists the filenames, replacements, and total counts for all replacements. Note that if this is the only box checked, you will not see the context of each replacement. Check "Display First Hit Line" if you want to see the full replace contexts.
Display Number of Hits in File lists the filename(s) and number of times the search string was found in that file. Note that if "Display First Hit Line" is not checked, only the number of hits will be listed. Select this if you only want to know how many hits were found in each file.
Display File Size and Date/Time lists the size and date stamp of the files searched.
Show Output to File: To route the Search Results list to a file, enter a file in this field. If this field is blank, no file is produced. If no path is specified, the current directory is used. Use the Browse button () to the right of the field to select an output file via a File Save As dialog. The default name suggestion is "Results.txt.". Supply another name if you want. The contents are the same as Note that what is written to this file is the same information presented in the Search & Replace results display. Therefore, to adjust the output, make selections in the "Hit Line Display" checkbox fields.
Notes and Additional Functions:
To dump the search results to the Windows clipboard, specify "clipboard" (no quotes) in this field. Clipboard contents are overwritten with each new search (or replace). To turn off the clipboard dump, blank out the field.
To route the search results to your printer, enter the phrase "Default Printer" (case insensitive, no quote characters) in this field. Long lines will be word wrapped in the printed output. To turn off printing, blank out the field.
To output the file contents in html format, specify '.htm' or '.html' as a name extension for the output file the program writes. The formatting is similar to the results you see from the 'View as HTML' function.
See the Copy Search Info to Clipboard switch in Options|Display to control whether or not search parameters are included in the output report.
Append to Output File: Enable this to write to the output file in 'append' mode. If the file exists, existing content is preserved. When this box is not checked, the output file is replaced each time.
Before Hit: Enter the string to use to demark the start of the search hit in clipboard dump or in the output file. Blank out this field if you want nothing to be displayed.
After Hit: Enter the string to use to demark the end of the search hit in clipboard dump or in the output file. Blank out this field if you want nothing to be displayed.
Text Line Prefix: This field can be used to modify the line prefix when Display First Hit Line is enabled. The default setting is Line %3ld -, which results in out such as Line 20 - , Line 12984 - , and so on. The syntax for changes somewhat complex. Please see Line Prefix Switches for details.
Binary Line Prefix: As above but controls the output when the file being searched is binary. The default string is Offset 0x%-6lx -. Please see Line Prefix Switches for details about making change to this setting.
OK button: Saves the changes and closes the dialog.
Cancel button: The changes will not be made.
