Jean Patricia Moore Saleeby passed away in her sleep on Friday,
December 16, 2016, at Hospice House in Greenville, NC.
Jean, daughter of Delmer and Fara Taylor Moore, was born on April
14, 1928 in Pitt County. She received her early education in
Grifton, and later at Atlantic Christian College, where she met
George John Saleeby. They were married on February 1, 1947.
Throughout their lives together, they loved to entertain and anytime
you went to their house you were offered a meal and always lots of
laughter. Jean made you feel like you were a part of the family, not
a guest. Their home was open to everyone as they raised their four
children and helped in raising others. Jean was well known for her
love of her family and friends and her quick wit. Everyone she met
loved to trade banter with her and she loved it as well!At the
age of 50, Jean decided to go to work at the insurance and real
estate office which she and George owned. She remained actively
involved with the business until the time of her passing. Many
people would go to the office just to talk with her, whether they
were customers or not.
Jean had a passion for many things; first and foremost were her
children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family.
She also loved genealogy and had an excellent ability to remember
small details of the past. With a fondness of gardening, Jean truly
had a green thumb and could grow anything. |
In addition to her parents, Jean was pre-deceased by her husband,
George John Saleeby; a sister, Faye Wheeler; and a grandson, Harper
(Sonny) Grant.
Jean is survived by her children: Brenda Hoke and husband Ray of
Raleigh; George John Saleeby, II and wife Lynn of Peachtree City,
Georgia; Rhonda Jean Saleeby of Grifton; and Jeffrey Moore Saleeby
and wife Becky of Grifton; grandchildren: Brian Moore Saleeby; Jenny
Saleeby Hernandez and husband Oscar; Kate Saleeby Timmons and
husband Leland; George John Saleeby, III (Trey) and wife Liz; and
Heather Brilyn Saleeby; great grandchildren: Bennett Hernandez and
Ella Timmons.
