FAYETTEVILLE - Mrs. Callie Ratley Saleeby Stanley, of Fayetteville, and Executive Secretary of the
Saleeby-Saliba Association of families went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011, at the
age of 91. She was born in rural Cumberland County, on Feb. 11, 1920.

She began working in Steve's Diner in Fayetteville, where she met and married Eli S. Saleeby, a local merchant. They moved to Wilmington, and in 1940, a son, Eli Leonard Saleeby was born. During World War II, she worked in the shipyard. After the war, she opened one of the first Merle Norman Studios. After the death of her husband in Wilmington, she took a job at Pineland Jr. College in 1949, and was the girl's basketball coach. She met and married D. Leighton Stanley. Together they moved to Wake Forest, and went to college on the GI Bill. After graduation, the family moved to Gastonia, where she worked in the school system. An offer from the State Department of Education, NECA Division, created another move to Raleigh and eventually Virginia Department of Education City of Richmond would be home for 20 years. After returning to Fayetteville, Callie wrote and published The Saleeby-Saliba Worldwide Family.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Minnie Davis Ratley; father, Alexander Ratley; husbands, Eli S. Saleeby (father of Eli Leonard) and D. Leighton Stanley; three brothers, Leonard Ratley, Alexander Ratley and William J. Ratley; and two sisters, Lena R. Meyers and Bonnie R. Rieger. She is survived by her son, Eli L. Saleeby and wife Elaine; a sister, Mary R. Rodriquez; a grandchild, Lisa Saleeby Powell; three great-grandchildren, David Eli Powell, Colt Parker Powell and Nicholas John Neal; nine nieces, Mary S. Council, Hilda G. Saleeby, Judy Buttenbaum, Janice Fetchko, Linda Ratley, Doreen Dritto, Karen Kenny, JoAnn Rodriquez and Eileen Rieger; six nephews, William D. Ratley, Steve Ratley, Ronnie Ratley, Phillip Ratley, David Martin and Richard Martin; several great-nieces and great-nephews; special cousins, Molly Dunn, Lynn Breeden, Betty Knoff and Vera Jenkins.

She was a member of Village Baptist Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, Eastern Stars and Altrusa Club.

The family will receive friends at Village Baptist Church prior to the service.

FUNERAL SERVICES:

Village Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Bruce Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Cross Creek Cemetery No. 3.
