About PivotTable list source data

A PivotTable list is a means of bringing data from external sources into a Web page for display and analysis. When you design a PivotTable list, you select the source data that the control will use and make available in the browser, and you establish a connection to that source data. In the browser, users can then refresh the PivotTable list to view updated source data.

Types of source data

PivotTable lists can display data from several different sources. The most common sources of data are relational databases, Microsoft Excel worksheets, and On-Line Analytical Processing (OLAP) databases.

Connecting to source data

If you are using Microsoft Access data access page Design view as your design program, you can use the methods and commands in Access to prepare data and establish connections. For information and procedures, see Access Help.

Refreshing the PivotTable list when the source data changes

After you have established a connection to a database, you can refresh the PivotTable list when you need to reflect updates and changes to the source data.
