Turn off blocking automatic picture downloads
When Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 blocks automatic picture downloading to help protect your privacy, the InfoBar of the message tells you that pictures (or other content) were not downloaded. You will also see red X placeholders in the message wherever pictures or other content has been blocked.
You can choose to download pictures and other blocked content on a per-message basis or to automatically download external pictures and other content for all HTML
messages. You can also choose to always download external content for all e-mail messages from a specific e-mail address or domain by including the e-mail address or domain on your Safe Senders List.
To stop automatic blocking, do one of the following:
On a per-message basis
- In the open message, click the InfoBar or right-click one of the blocked items.
- On the
InfoBar menu, on the shortcut menu, click
Download Pictures.
Notes
- If you always want to see external content from this sender or from anyone sending from this domain, you can add the sender’s e-mail address or domain to your Safe Senders List. To easily add senders or domains to the list, right-click one of the blocked items, then on the shortcut menu, click Add Sender to Safe Senders List or Add the Domain @<domain> to Safe Senders List.
- You can also click View in Internet Zone on the View menu of the open message. This unblocks any content that Outlook blocked. Before doing this, be sure the message is from someone you trust and that you expected to receive the message. When you open a message in the Internet zone, all content is displayed and any scripts in the message will run. If you subsequently open the message without viewing it in the Internet zone, the content was blocked by Outlook will continue to be blocked.
For all HTML messages
- On the
Tools menu, click
Options, and then click the
Security tab.
- Under
Download Pictures,
click
Change Automatic Download Settings.
- Clear the
Don't download pictures or other content automatically in HTML e-mail check box.
- Click
OK twice.
Note By default, when you edit, forward, or reply to a message
that references external content, Outlook displays a warning message. If you want to
turn off these warning messages, clear the
Warn
me before downloading content when editing, forwarding, or replying to
e-mail check box.
For all messages from a specific e-mail address or domain
- In the open message, right-click one of the blocked items.
- On the shortcut menu, click Add Sender to Safe Senders List or Add the Domain @<domain> to Safe Senders List.
