AUTHOR:Henry Gordon CATEGORY:newage COMMENT:Not especially recommended. The first half is an overview of various fads within the New Age movement, like trance channellers, UFO abductions and crystals. This has been covered in better detail in other books (see Not Necessarily The New Age or Fringes Of Reason), although Gordon does mention a few obscure facts here and there. He builds up to a discussion of actress Shirley MacLaine, whose books were a popular exemplar of the New Age. The chapter on MacLaine is a decent overview of her history with various channellers, advisors, and associates. The second half is quotations from her books and public pronouncements, with Gordon's `witty' commentary. Some may need to have "Shirley MacLaine is an airhead" spelled out to them, but those of us who knew that already may find it tiresome. DATE:19990628 KEYWORDS:newage UFO MISC:198p.
