*********************************** AM/FM *********************************** More than 20 >dynamite< drum-patterns for Music-x! On this disk - and ready for use In the "MIDIFiles" directory on this issue of AM/FM you will find two Music-X performance files, which each consist more than 20 killer drum-patterns. The two files, submitted to AM/FM by Kevan and Gareth Craft, are called "RX21Drums.MX.pp" and "GenericDrums.MX.pp". These files are both packed with PowerPacker and need to be decrunched before they can be loaded into Music-X. To decrunch them, use the program "Decrunch" stored in the C-directory on this disk. Here's what Kevan and Gareth had to say about the drum patterns: There are two Music-X files presented here as 2 separate 'Drum.perfs', the first file, 'RX21DRUMS.MX' contains various drum patterns gleamed from the Yamaha RX21 owners manual but there also exists some patterns that Gareth and myself, Kevan, which we have written from various sources such as music magazines, drum books etc... The second , 'GenericDrums.MX' is a variation of the first file but the relevant note data which makes-up the drum patterns has been modified to suit the electronic tones/voices for a MIDI Keyboard or Multi-timbral module etc. The different drum patterns, which are fairly good for keeping as data for either a Music-X file or as a MIDI file, are, we have found, a a good way of obtaining a drum pattern instead of creating a new pattern from scratch! A good tip for Music-X users is to load one or the other Drum Pattern data file and once listened to by clicking on and off etc, then access the step editor page as if you were going to edit the sequence but save the sequence to disk instead. Complete the process for the collection of drum patterns and this will enable the user to load the separate drum sequences back into Music-X for use when composing. Second tip - do exactly the same for bass seqences then all you have to do is change the 'musical' key. What this enables you to do therefore is to build-up a collection of different sequences for differnt kinds of composing from Music-X . Gareth and I have plans in the future to build up a library of drum patterns together with other libraries containing bass lines and musical riffs which will be of some use to other sequencer musicians. Hope you find these drum patterns of some use for Music-X or alternatively, they may be converted to MIDI files for use wherever. [Ed: I'm sure a lot of readers will find them useful - I myself certainly did - thanks, Kevan and Gareth.] *********************************** AM/FM ***********************************
